Department Of Caffeine Review: Just a few months after the opening of the restaurant, the Department of Caffeine has gained a lot of attention and has become the favorite brunch spot for cafe people who love to eat.

In the same spot that Broadway Cafe used to be, DOC seems to be doing much better in its popularity compared to the old.

There is no doubt that it offers probably the finest waffles in town and has diverse choices of roasts to select your coffee from. Department of Caffeine has indeed revived Duxton hill once more.

Look & Feel

It has provided a fantastic revamp to this area. The space allocation is not easy given that the area they have is both narrow and long. The wood walls and furniture gave a warm feel to the space.

Food & Drinks

My regular cafe-hopping friend, Grace, and I were craving waffles. I went for the sweet version, Buttermilk Waffles with Butter Rum Bananas. The waffle was crisp and lightweight.

The delicious caramelized bananas with the tinge of rum were perfect! Ice cream provided a sweet ending to the whole dish. I highly recommend this to anyone.

Grace was served a savory version, Sundried Tomato and Herb Waffles with bacon and scrambled eggs. Although savory waffles have the potential for more clashes in flavor, DOC did a pretty excellent job with this.

The bacon was not too salty, which makes it perfect for soft eggs and a crisp waffle. I enjoyed it too but Grace said that her waffle was not crispy enough. I’m guessing that her waffle was left on its own for a few minutes before serving.

Also, I tried my hand at the Yoghurt, Vanilla beans, and Honey Smoothie, which seemed very tempting and delicious. It was however somewhat disappointing. The taste was bland and could be sweeter.

The most unpleasant part is the dryness on the tongue that is evident in the aftertaste. In the dialect, it’s called “siap-siap”.

However, I did consume the entire beverage, so I wouldn’t consider it unpalatable. I would suggest that they revisit their recipe since I’m fairly certain that the combination of honey, vanilla, and yogurt will not go wrong!
