How To Create Your UI Online Account
You must create an account at the UI Online portal to file a claim. Follow the below steps to create your UI Online Account.
If you have never filed a Massachusetts unemployment claim:
- Go to the UI Online login screen.
- When prompted, you will be asked to e:
- Enter your Social Security Number (SSN).
- Create a password.
Passwords must be at least eight characters long and contain the following:
o At least 1 number
o At least 1 uppercase letter
o At least 1 lowercase letter
o At least 1 special character (i.e. &[email protected]*)
- Select a security question and answer.
- Accept the IRS terms by checking the box on the screen.
Remember your password and security question. To access UI Online, you will need your SSN and password each week you request your benefit payment. Forgot your password? Click “Forgot Password” and answer the security question to reset it.

- If you were in the military — your DD-214 Member 4 form. If you don’t have it, you can request your DD-214 online.
- If you worked for the federal government — your SF8 form (optional)
You will need your bank name, routing number, and account number to receive direct deposit payments. The Department of Unemployment Assistance will issue a debit card if you don’t have these.
DUA must confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States if you are a non-U.S. citizen applying for UI benefits.
Non-English speakers may apply for UI benefits in their native languages via DUA’s foreign language application website.
